Hong Ji-young (1987~)
Hong Ji-young is a painter who explores the essential temperatures shared by beings, looking beyond superficial boundaries and the universal prejudices of our society. She holds a BFA in Painting from Sungshin Women’s University and an MFA in Technology Art from the Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia and Film at Chung-Ang University.
Originating from a childhood physical habit, the concept of the “Epidermis” serves as a core medium connecting the exterior to the interior, questioning our visual prejudices. Beginning with Epidermis TV (2014), which explored thermal media metaphors, through Epidermis World, which anchored the colors of daily atmosphere and body heat, to her recent series Warmth of Connection, Hong dismantles all superficial classifications. She captures the invisible heat of essence and implants it onto the canvas with a diverse palette of colors.
She has held 19 solo exhibitions, won the Grand Prize at the 2022 BBuzzArt Competition, and was invited to serve on the jury of the Prisma Art Prize in Rome. Her work has been exhibited in galleries across Seoul, New York, London, and Melbourne, as well as at the Musée Quesnel-Morinière in Coutances, France. Her paintings are held in collections including the Musée Quesnel-Morinière, Yeolmae Company, and Art Blending.

Hong Ji-young (1987~)
대상을 둘러싼 피상적 경계와 우리 사회의 보편적인 편견을 넘어, 존재들이 나누는 내면의 본질적인 온도를 탐구하는 화가다. 성신여자대학교 서양화과를 졸업하고, 중앙대학교 첨단영상대학원에서 테크놀로지 아트 전문석사(MFA) 학위를 받았다.
어린 시절의 신체적 경험에서 비롯된 ‘표피(Epidermis)’는 작가에게 외형과 내면을 가로지르며 시각적 편견을 묻는 핵심 매개체다. 2014년 열화상 미디어의 은유를 다룬 〈Epidermis TV〉를 시작으로, 일상과 기억 속에 스며든 체온을 포착한 〈Epidermis World〉를 거쳐, 최근의 《Warmth of Connection》에 이르기까지, 작가는 대상을 나누는 모든 피상적 분류를 지워내고 비가시적인 본질의 열(熱)을 캔버스 표피 위에 다채로운 색감으로 안착시켜 왔다.
현재까지 19회의 개인전을 열었으며, 2022년 버즈아트 공모 대상 수상 및 로마 Prisma Art Prize 심사위원으로 초청되었다. 프랑스 쿠탕스의 Musée Quesnel-Morinière를 비롯해 서울, 뉴욕, 런던, 멜버른 등 국내외 갤러리에서 활발히 작품을 선보이고 있다. 주요 작품은 프랑스 쿠탕스 미술관, 열매컴퍼니, 아트블렌딩 등에 소장되어 있다.
